(Jonathan Cape, $36.99)I didn’t read The Woman Who Walked Into Doors, which is a prequel to this book, but half a million other people did, so it must have been good. We meet mother-of-four Paula Spencer 10 years down the track from that story. She’s surviving both her battle with the booze and the sins of her past but it’s not easy.
I love Roddy’s gritty style and ripped through this book but wouldn’t entirely agree that Paula is “very funny” as described. That’s not a reason to not read it, but it sure ain’t The Commitments.
