Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell escape death

The pilot of their helicopter was attempting to land at Paul and Nancy’s East Sussex estate in bad weather.

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell have narrowly escaped a potentially fatal helicopter crash.

The pilot of their helicopter was attempting to land at Paul and Nancy’s East Sussex estate in bad weather when the helicopter plunged toward some trees. The pilot managed to gain control of the helicopter two feet away from disaster, and was forced to make an emergency landing at a nearby airport.

Paul (70) and Nancy (52) have declined to comment on the incident but are said to be unaware of how close they came to disaster. The Air Accidents Investigations Branch has categorised the episode as a “serious incident”.
