The royal baby is due any day now – and Kiwi women are brimming with ideas about what the perfect gift from New Zealand could be.
In anonline discussion last night, the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly asked its readers to share what gift they thought New Zealand should give the imminent arrival. Buzzy Bee items, Hairy Maclary books and merino sheepskin were popular choices.
Prince William was given a shawl from New Zealand when he was born in 1982, but is forever linked to the Buzzy Bee after playing with it on the lawn of Government House as a toddler, and many were keen to continue with the theme.
A carved greenstone was also a top choice, with one reader saying: “A beautifully carved pounamu pendant – everyone else will be buying ‘baby’ age-appropriate gifts, let NZ do something forward-thinking instead!”
But the readers weren’t just considering the baby. “Don’t forget Mum!” wrote one reader. “Pineapple Lumps and possum socks would do the trick.”
