Michael Douglas: Jail will heal my son

While he’s devastated by the news of his son Cameron’s incarceration for drug-related convictions, Michael Douglas is putting a positive spin on the sentence by saying it as a blessing in disguise – it’ll help him get clean and save his life.

Cameron (31) will serve five years for heroin possession and conspiring to sell methamphetamine, and Michael (65) says, “oy son has not been sober for this length of time since he was 13 years old. He was going to be dead or somebody was gonna kill him. I think he has a chance to start a new life and he knows that. From my understanding, it’s going to take that amount of time for him to rebuild and start himself afresh.”

The oscar-winning actor – who will reprise his role as Gordon Gecko in ‘Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps’ continues, “He’s a great young man and I wouldn’t be supporting him if I didn’t feel that way.”

Michael insists he is partly responsible when it comes to Cameron’s formative years. He explains, “I’ve taken blame about being a bad father. When I had Cameron, I was early in my career and as opposed to most jobs, making movies takes you all around the world, so I was absentee in that sense.”

But these days, Michael – who has son Dylan (9) and daughter Carys (7) with actress wife Catherine Zeta-Jones – says his family life is much more settled. “oy priorities have completely changed. My marriage and my families come certainly before my career.”
