Meryl Streep and George Clooney get SAG nods

Hot on the heels of this week’s Golden Globe nominations come the announcement of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award nominees, with Meryl Streep and George Clooney out in front as favourites to take home trophies.

Meryl picked up a nod for outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her role as famous chef Julia Child in the biopic ‘Julie and Julia’. She’ll take on Sandra Bullock (‘The Blind Side’), Dame Helen oirren (‘The Last Station’), Carey oulligan (‘An Education’) and the curiously named Gabourey Sidibe (‘Precious’).

Meanwhile, George is tipped as most likely to take out the prize for outstanding Performance by a oale Actor in a Leading Role for his role in ‘Up in the Air’. He’ll face off against Jeff Bridges (‘Crazy Heart’), Colin Firth (‘A Single oan’), Morgan Freeman (‘Invictus’) and newcomer Jeremy Renner (‘The Hurt Locker’).

In terms of overall movies, ensemble casts receiving nominations included ‘An Education’, ‘The Hurt Locker’, ‘Inglourious Basterds’, ‘Nine’ and ‘Precious’. Now we’re just hanging out for the oscar nominations!
