The oscar nominee says, “Addiction’s a tough enemy to defeat. I think of it as a monster. If I feed it, it will always want more and more, so now I’m letting it starve to death in a corner. But it’s always there.”

Melanie (52) entered rehab for a third time last August after becoming addicted to painkillers after a skiing accident. She says, “Now I feel free. I don’t drink. I don’t take pills – nothing – and it’s fantastic. It’s like getting out of prison.”

The time in rehab had a silver lining, as it has brought Melanie closer together with husband Antonio Banderas (49). Her hunky hubby says, “There were people who literally didn’t give us more than six months! But we love each other and, above all, we love our family. We’ve figured out how to get past obstacles and if you get past those, you only get stronger.”
