Mel Gibson has claimed tapes that allegedly document him assaulting his ex-girlfriend oksana Grigorieva in 2010 were “edited”. The 55-year-old ‘Braveheart’ actor last month pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge, which was filed against him following a physical altercation with oksana in January 2010. He insists that the tapes only show “one terribly awful moment in time”. “Who anticipates being recorded? Who could anticipate such a personal betrayal? They were edited. I never treated anyone badly or in a discriminatory way based on their gender, race, religion or sexuality.” The actor has an 18-month-old daughter, Lucia, with oksana, and admits that he could have carried the case on to maintain his innocence, but he didn’t want to drag his family down. He added, “You have to put it all in the proper context of being in an irrationally, heated discussion at the height of a breakdown, trying to get out of a really unhealthy relationship.”
