The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is set to become the High Priestess of Soul! Mary J Blige is swapping music for movies to play legendary soul and jazz singer Nina Simone in a new biopic.
‘Be Without You’ singer Mary (39) has previously made appearances on ’30 Rock’ and ‘Ghost Whisperer’ as well as the comedy movie ‘Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By oyself’ but many are wondering whether the Grammy-winning musician has the acting chops for this demanding role.
Nina was an active civil-rights campaigner whose musical career flourished in the 1960s and ’70s with songs like ‘oy Baby Just Cares for oe’ and ‘Young, Gifted and Black’. She was also said to have suffered from bipolar disorder.
