The original Doctor Spock has donned those pointy ears for the last time. Leonard Nimoy has announced he has retired not only from the Star Trek franchise but from showbiz altogether.
The 79-year actor says, “I’ve been doing this professionally for 60 years. I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I’ve had a great, great time.”
Leonard explains that he has just completed a professional “victory lap” following his final appearance on the hit TV show ‘Fringe’ and he also wants to make room for other actors to carry on the Spock beam.
“I want to get off the stage,” he says. “Also, I don’t think it would be fair to [new Spock star] Zachary Quinto. He’s a terrific actor, he looks the part and it’s time to give him some space. And I’m very flattered the character will continue.”
