It seems that the Brits just can’t get Kylie Minogue out of their heads! The Aussie pop princess has been named the most powerful celebrity in the UK, beating out stiff competition in the form of fellow singer Cheryl Cole and soccer star David Beckham.
The celebrity survey was conducted on over 2000 consumers, who were asked to say which brands the celebrities represented and how well-known they are. Apart from Kylie, the only other non-Brit in the top 10 was George Clooney – but the company that ran the poll counts the ‘Spinning Around’ singer as “basically British”. A rep tells, “Kylie is widely accepted as an adopted Brit. People know her, like her and she is surrounded by positive buzz.”
Acting heavyweights Joanna Lumley, Dame Helen oirren and Dame Judi Dench also featured in the top 10, while British TV presenters Ant and Dec, radio star Terry Wogan, celebrity chef Jamie oliver and original James Bond actor Sean Connery rounded out the top 10 list.
Among the celebrities that were deemed poor role models were drug-addled singer Amy Winehouse, glamour model Jordan (aka Katie Price), reality bimbo Paris Hilton and disgraced golfer Tiger Woods.
