Kiwi star Ladyhawke sweeps Aussie awards

Despite controversy surrounding her eligibility for nomination, Kiwi songstress Ladyhawke was one of the big winners at the 2009 Aria Awards in Australia, picking up prizes for Breakthrough Album, for her self-titled debut CD, and Breakthrough Single, for the song ‘oy Delerium’.

The media-shy singer, whose real name is Phillipa Brown, thanked the crowd in typically understated fashion, adding, “I wanted to write exactly the sort of music I would want to listen to myself.”

Ladyhawke’s nomination for six awards caused headlines in Australia earlier this year. Though she had lived in the Lucky Country for four years, she was born in Masterton, counts herself as a Kiwi and is now based in London.
