New Zealand-born singer Jon Stevens is being held in hospital with complications following emergency open-heart surgery.
The former INXS singer and brother of ‘NZ Idol’ judge Frankie Stevens had the operation in a Sydney hospital three weeks ago but his condition has since deteriorated due to complications, including a fluid build up around his heart.
Jon’s manager Simon Lucas says, “Jon is in good spirits and following doctors’ orders but will not be released from hospital until he gets the go-ahead from his doctors and surgeon early next week.”
Jon (46) was rushed to hospital after doctors found a blockage in one of the main arteries to the heart during a routine check-up. After conferring with Aussie rocker Jimmy Barnes, who had undergone similar surgery, Jon decided to follow the same course of treatment.
Doctors told him to take it gradually, but Jon is hoping to be back on stage by the end of the year. His manager continues, “He’s a bit physically and mentally battered around, but he’s doing really well.”
