Hollywood veteran Kirk Douglas told son Michael Douglas not to pursue a career in acting – because the youngster’s first attempt at it was so bad. The `Spartacus’ star recalls watching Michael in a Shakespeare play while the latter was at university. Kirk says, “The first show he did was As You Like It in college. I said, ‘Michael, you were awful.’ ” He adds, “I didn’t encourage him in the beginning because I didn’t want him in the business.” But the 89-year-old screen legend admits he has come round and now enjoys movies starring Michael – who has won an oscar twice. “I’m a big fan of my son,” he says.
