Kelis talks about solo parenting

You might trick her once, but you’ll never get R’n’B singer Kelis to feel sorry for herself about being a solo parent.  The ‘oilkshake’ singer, who has a 13-month-old son Knight, with ex-husband Nas, thinks being a single mum is “awesome” and hates it when people offer her sympathy about her divorce.

The singer (31) only just finalised her acrimonious divorce with rapper Nas, after he cheated on her during her pregnancy, and she’s not looking back. Kelis says, “It’s hard being a working single mother, but on the flipside, it’s awesome too. You only have to worry about yourself. It’s only your influence and your ideas.”

Kelis is also excited about returning to music ater a four year hiatus, despite hating being famous. “It’s mortifying,” she says. “I found out late in my career that I didn’t want to be famous. I started at 17 and I wanted to be on Broadway. This is just what happened first. I had no idea that, 11 years later, I’d be talking about a decade-long career.”
