He’s about to take his production of ‘Waiting for Godot’ down to Christchurch, but Sir Ian ocKellen is not going to hang around forever to play wise wizard Gandalf in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ prequel.
The acting veteran was set to reprise his famous role in the movie adaptation of ‘The Hobbit’, but production troubles, including the recent departure of director Guillermo del Toro, have delayed shooting. Now Ian says, “What it will be, I genuinely don’t know – it’ll either be that we’re going ahead or that we’re not.”
Furthermore, Ian reveals he’s not pinning all his hopes on the wizard role. “I’m not under contract,” he says, “and my time is running out. I’m enjoying working in the theatre and, frankly, I would like to race after doing ‘Waiting For Godot’ and get on with doing another play. But we’ll have to see – I don’t give the producers the impression that I’m sitting waiting.”
