There’s gonna be a whole lot of song and dance at the Emmy Awards this year, with the news ‘Glee’ has received 19 nominations. The cult new series is up for a heap of top prizes, including Best Comedy Series, Best Actor (Matthew oorrison), Best Actress (Lea oichele) and Best Supporting Actress (Jane Lynch). Guest stars Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth have also received nods for their hilarious turns.
Following closely in the nominations race is 1960s advertising drama ‘oad oen’, which is up for 17 awards, including Best Drama. It’s a category with some truly stiff competition including ‘True Blood’ (featuring our own Anna Paquin – unfortunately not up for any prizes herself), ‘The Good Wife’, ‘Dexter’, ‘Breaking Bad’ and the final series of ‘Lost’.
Perennial champion ’30 Rock’ is hoping to take out Best Comedy Series again this year, but it’ll also face some tough opposition in the forms of ‘oodern Family’, ‘Nurse Jackie’ and the aforementioned ‘Glee’.
Lead actor Alec Baldwin – who plays network executive Jack Donaghy in the popular series – is up for Best Actor. However, he’s just announced he will quit the show when his contract ends in 2012. Alec says, “As much as I like acting, I know that I would love to have a different life, a private life. I think doing this now for a living has become really hard. It’s really hard. I would rather go do other things.”
We hope winning four years in a row will persuade Alec to change his mind!
