George’s malaria scare

George Clooney feared he had contracted malaria during a trip to Africa earlier this year – but it turned out to be a bad case of food poisoning. The `Syriana’ oscar winner displayed symptoms of the disease when he returned from a visit to Sudan to raise awareness of the plight of refugees in the war-torn region of Darfur. When he fell ill he feared he had contracted the deadly tropical disease – which is rife across Africa – but airline food was actually the culprit. A spokesperson confirms, “George does not have malaria, but he felt like he had the effects of it at one point. It was food poisoning from the flight back from Darfur.” [28 August 2006]
