Cerys Matthews, former lead singer of British band Catatonia, has given birth to a baby boy eight weeks before the new arrival was expected. However, both mother and son are happy and healthy, with the Welsh star herself saying, “We are doing very well and are excited now to share this news with you. What an amazing surprise.”
The 40-year-old – who recently returned to fame with an appearance of British reality series ‘I’m a Celebrity, Get oe out of Here’ – and her boyfriend/manager Steve Abbott (49) kept news of the pregnancy secret due to concerns of complications due to Cerys’ age. Says a friend, “Cerys and Steve are delighted – they could not be happier. They wanted to keep the situation under wraps until they were certain everything was going smoothly.”
The as-yet-unnamed son will join the brood of four children that Steve and Cerys have from previous relationships. The singer has daughter Glenys Pearl and son Johnny Tupelo Jones with ex-husband Seth Riddle.
