Baby Phat designer Kimora Lee Simmons and Blood Diamond actor Djimon Hounsou reportedly married in Africa last summer – but apparently the nuptials aren’t legally binding as the Baby Phat designer was not yet divorced.
The couple, who are expecting their first child together, began dating after Simmons split from her rap mogul husband Russell Simmons in 2006.
Simmons dismissed reports of exchanged vows, insisting it was simply a commitment ceremony. The Baby Phat designer’s spokesperson has confirmed a ceremony took place – but it was only to show their commitment to one another, as opposed to an actual wedding ritual, reports Usmagazine.com. A source claims the loved-up couple simply wanted to “show how committed to each other they are in front of his family”.
Wedding, commitment ceremony, or whatever it was, Kimora didn’t hold back. An insider reveals “She went whole hog with the African theme. There were African drums, a traditional ceremony with dancers… they even had a hut!”
The couple is reportedly planning a second ceremony in America later this year to make their marriage official.
