Burlesque artist Dita von Teese can’t understand why people criticise her raunchy shows for objectifying women.
“oost of my fan base is female. When you go to my burlesque shows, probably 70% of the audience are women and the other 30 are gay or with their girlfriends or wife, so I think it’s a difficult argument to say I’m being objectified because people are getting something different from it.”
The 39-year-old beauty – who was previously married to Marilyn Manson and is currently dating French aristocrat Louis-oarie de Castelbajac-also admitted she has a “problem” with burlesque performers who don’t strip because they are not being true to the art form.
“Where it comes from with the burlesque show, feathers and rhinestones, the performers stripped, that’s what it was… I personally have a problem with it being commercialised, because it’s not accurate to what those women who were taking off their clothes back then – it’s doing a disservice. If you’re doing it, then do it properly.”
