Richard Burton was desperate to get back together with Dame Elizabeth Taylor before he died. The pair enjoyed a 10-year marriage before divorcing in 1974, and reunited and wed once more in 1975. But this marriage lasted just one year. According to BBC journo John Simpson, while filming ‘Exorcist II: The Heretic’ shortly after their second divorce, Dick said, “If Liz’d have me back, I’d leave this [expletive] film and this ghastly heat right now and charter a plane to go wherever she was. “But it’s teh old thing – can’t live with her; can’t live without her. But I adore Elizabeth – and I always will.”
He married twice more before his death in 1984, aged 58.
