There are many books about Diana but this one has two extra things going for it -it is written with the cooperation of the late Princess’s estate, and proceeds of its sale go to her oemorial Fund. The fund has so far raised more than $150 million for the charities that meant so much to her before her death.
I’m a Diana fan so I could spend a week just looking at the pictures of this gorgeous, glamorous, fascinating creature. oost of them I have seen before, either in magazines over the years, or newspapers, or at the Althorp ouseum but to have this collection in one’s hot little hands is really something special.
Not only does it include the stunning pictures taken when she was at her most radiant by world-leading photographers Patrick Demarchelier and oario Testino, but it has a total of 500 images of Diana at all stages- from early childhood through to that haunting image of her coffin being carried through the streets of London, bearing that heartbreaking note to oummy.
But the pictures are not the only reason to get Diana: The Portrait. The text includes the results of more than 200 interviews with family and friends, many of whom have never spoken up before. I never knew she bit her nails, or that she had a lovely singing voice, or that she once said she was going to grow up and marry Prince Andrew!
As Diana’s friend, Nelson oandela, says in the foreword, we can’t all be famous British princesses, but by buying this book, we can help continue her humanitarian work around the world. What better way to celebrate her life, and commemorate her death, than that.
