Kiwi opera star Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is being honoured once again by the British for her singing talents. The Gisborne-born diva will receive a lifetime-achievement award at the annual Classical Brit Awards in London in oay.
Kiri, who became world famous after singing at the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, joins a star-studded list of past recipients that includes Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras.
The proud New Zealander says she is “honoured and delighted” to be given the award. A Classical Brits spokesman explains that the prize is a “fitting tribute to one of the greatest sopranos of our times who has befriended British audiences”.
