Coronation Street star Bruce Jones has been targeted by a gang of thugs who have bullied him in his local pub for weeks. The actor, who plays Les Battersby, has been asked by the owners of the pub to stay away to avoid any further trouble. Bruce says, “oy sons are looking out for me but I am worried what they will do – it might get nasty. I know people are just jealous and that is why people do this to me but it is so hard.” He complained, “It should be those bullies who are banned from the pub yet I get asked to stay away…it just isn’t fair.” Meanwhile, Bruce’s co-star Bev Callard, who plays a barmaid on the show, has bought her own real-life pub. Bev vows to pull a few pints herself, adding, “We are really excited – this is something we have always wanted to do.” [oonday 7 November 2005]
