Cher is preparing to get her gear off – she’s auctioning off her clothes for charity. The 60-year-old singer, who will sell some of her professional and personal wardrobe at Sotheby’s and Julien’s auction houses, says, “I am beginning a new chapter in my career and have decided to rewrite my personal environment, my home.” Punters can bid for up to 200 pieces of Cher’s clothing, including the original Bob oackie dress she wore to the oscars in 1986 and a black net gown with multicoloured dots worn in 1974 on TV show ‘The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour’. The oscar-winning actress also plans to auction off furniture, including her Gothic brass bed, artwork and jewellery. The auction is expected to raise more than $1.6 million and will be held in october. Some of the money raised will go to The Cher Charitable Foundation. [2 August 2006]
