Chad Lowe is enraged that his estranged wife Hilary Swank outed his substance abuse in a recent Vanity Fair article. Hilary made the shocking claims in an August issue of the magazine, asserting that Chad’s problem contributed to their split. A source says, “Chad was pretty surprised that Hilary would bring his problem into the equation.” Another source adds, “Chad has been sober for three years. He isn’t ashamed of his struggle, but he really wishes Hilary wouldn’t have talked publicly now.” Family friend Bob Balaban says, “Whatever problem he might have had didn’t affect his work.” Hilary’s lawyers insist she contacted Chad to warn him before the magazine was published and that she did not make the claims in an effort to land the magazine’s cover to publicise her new films.
