Britney Spears is said to have shunned a New York fashion show because a designer refused to give her a handbag. Britney apparently had her heart set on a purse from the Heatherette show and had promised she would be photographed with it when she took her seat at the show, but missed the event when the request was turned down by spokeswoman and model Lydia Hearst. Lydia says, “I’m only giving the bag to accomplished young women who are doing something positive to affect the world around them. They are women I look up to and respect, like Gwyneth Paltrow and Sarah Jessica Parker and Anne Hathaway. They share the same high standards of giving back to the communities in which they live” [15 February 2007]
