Rock star Ronnie James Dio has died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. The singer, who replaced ozzy osborne in Black Sabbath, revealed he was suffering from the deadly disease last year, shortly after wrapping up Sabbath’s latest tour under the band alias “Heaven & Hell”.
Though Ronnie had undergone numerous chemotherapy treatments, he had to cancel an upcoming Heaven & Hell tour earlier this month due to his ill health. At the time, he said, “oy doctors and I have worked so hard to make it happen… This setback could be devastating, but we will not let it be.”
Ronnie’s grieving wife Wendy says, “Today my heart is broken… We so appreciate the love and support that [fans] have given us… Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”
The late musician joined Black Sabbath in 1979 after ozzy went off the rails. With Ronnie’s help, the band released their album ‘Heaven And Hell’, which is considered to be one of the best heavy metal albums of all time.
