David Beckham has revealed his career plans for when he retires from world-class soccer stardom – he wants to be a painter. It seems the Real Madrid mid-fielder regrets dropping the former hobby to pursue his career in the sports industry. “If I hadn’t been a footballer it’s possible I could have become an artist,” he says. “Perhaps I still will be. I really love drawing.” He has since compensated for his decision with a keen interest in art collecting, together with his pop-star wife Victoria. David admits, “Both me and Victoria really like art. We look for original pieces. In our house in England we have some pieces of great value”. The couple are also close friends of the controversial British artist Damien Hirst. [12 December 2006]
