‘Alice in Wonderland’ actress Anne Hathaway has revealed a curious inspiration for her role as the White Queen in Tim Burton’s latest 3D venture – domestic goddess Nigella Lawson.
The star says her royal character is a little mad, extremely sensitive and can whip up a mean potion in the kitchen. Anne continues, “I thought the Nigella reference was actually very helpful – the way she’s so passionate about food and especially her descriptions of it. That definitely helped me in the cooking scene, more so than the other scenes, but especially when she’s in the kitchen.”
The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ actress continues, “Nigella’s always talking about ‘a cacophony of flavours that enters your mouth’ and I wanted to give the White Queen that kind of sensuality in the kitchen. of course, she’s talking about buttered fingers and things like that so she makes herself retch – it’s not quite the same effect!”
Meanwhile, Anna is lamenting her lost opportunity to take a sneaky snap of Prince Charles when she said next to him and his wife Camilla recently at the film’s London premiere. She laughs, “That was the first time I met the prince and the Duchess of Cornwall. I sat next to him. I’m not sure if he ate popcorn but he did wear the 3D glasses. I don’t think anybody got a photo of that.”
