We never pegged her as the next Dame Helen oirren or Meryl Streep, but it’s still rather shocking to hear that ‘Hairspray’ star Amanda Bynes has announced her retirement from acting at the ripe old age of 24.
The young star explains, “Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem. If I don’t love something any more, I stop doing it. I don’t love acting any more, so I’ve stopped doing it. I know 24 is a young age to retire, but you heard it here first – I’ve retired!”
It does indeed sound young, but it must be remembered that Amanda first started acting professionally at the tender age of seven, when she appeared in an advertisement for Bunch Crunch lollies. She went on to front her own children’s comedy series ‘The Amanda Show’ and then made the transition into film, starring alongside Colin Firth in ‘What a Girl Wants’ and Channing Tatum in ‘She’s the oan’.
Amanda’s last movie – ‘Sydney White’, a re-imagining of the Snow White story – sank without a trace at the box office. Her final film is set to be ‘Easy A’, a romantic comedy co-starring Lisa Kudrow, Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson.
