It hasn't been easy, but wee Lachie will always be a treasured part of Sophie’s family too, as she tells Woman's Day in her own words.

"I was turning myself inside out over how I could ever thank her enough," Toni says of her surrogate best friend Sophie, "but I'm learning to accept that she's done this because she loves me and because she wanted to, because she's an amazing, selfless person."

“I just can’t believe we got our son!" Toni gushes. "He really is the son I thought we’d never ever have.”

'So proud of his mum and so grateful for this gift from our amazing friend.'

With baby’s birth imminent, a relieved and delighted Toni is back to full health. “I was starting to freak out,” she admits.

And their adorable children came along too!
