New reports claim the twins are being 'treated for jaundice' after they were born prematurely last week.

A new detail has emerged that may explain why Beyoncé and Jay Z are reportedly still in the hospital with their newborn twins — a boy and a girl!

On Tuesday morning, TMZ reported that the twins are being kept in hospital as a precaution after being born prematurely, but there’s no need to panic — the babies are believed to be doing just fine despite their early arrival.

The family insider who spoke to the publication said the twins are now “under the lights,” a common treatment for jaundice which serves to lower bilirubin levels in the blood.

The condition occurs frequently among premmie babies, and in most cases isn’t dangerous.

The update seems to fit with earlier reports that suggested the singer-songwriter was required to stay in the hospital due to a “minor issue” involving the twins’ birth.

While Beyonce, 35, and Jay Z, 47, have remained tight-lipped on their new arrivals, both People and US Weekly have confirmed that the superstar couple welcomed their twins into the world eight days ago.

“Bey and Jay are thrilled and have started sharing the news with their family and closest friends,” a source tells People.

Hairstylist Chuck Amos also shared a photo yesterday telling Bey to “hang in there, Mama”, seemingly referencing her new babies.

Bey’s father, Mathew Knowles, has also confirmed their birth.

Taking to Instagram, Matthew posted a photo of balloons with the message: “Happy birthday to the twins! Love, granddad.”

And if you’re still not convinced, over the weekend a friend was pictured delivering a colourful display of pink and blue balloons to the LA hospital where the Carter-Knowles clan are staying, which read: “It’s a boy!” and “It’s a girl.”

Beyonce and Jay Z announced they were expecting twins back in February.

At the time, the Grammy winner broke the internet by sharing an amazing picture of herself (and her just-popped belly) kneeling in a scene that looked like it could have been pulled straight from the mind of Alice In Wonderland author, Lewis Carroll.

The picture was joined by an emotional statement, it read: “We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. – The Carters.”

We have our eyes peeled and ears to the ground for any further updates!
