Mum’s novel parenting hack: controversial or clever?

Would you trust this DIY baby bouncer?
DIY baby bouncer.

If you’ve got a baby that will only settle when being rocked, it’s possible you may have wished for way to keep you child comforted while you attend to other more pressing tasks.

Seems like someone somewhere – although to be fair we’re not sure if this is a prank or not – has created this, using a kitchen mixer, a thick elastic band and a baby’s bassinet.

Whoever created the makeshift bouncer shared a GIF of the device to Reddit where it’s been viewed more than 750,000 times, the Daily Mail reports.

The device, nicknamed “KitchenAid Bouncer” works in response to the slowly turning motion of the food mixer.

And while the end result appears to be a perfectly happy baby, not everyone who has seen the clip agrees.

Although there’s no way of telling if the contraption is a joke or a serious effort to create the perfect baby bouncer, many Reddit users were quick to voice safety concerns.

One commenter wrote: “Good lord this seems like such an incredibly bad idea. I can’t really even come up with a positive thing to say here. At least they aren’t using an extension cord on the mixer I guess?”

Another added: “This is one of those ideas we all have and then most of us immediately realise it’s a really stupid idea. This person doesn’t have that part of the brain.”

There were also some who didn’t discount the idea entirely but weren’t convinced the kitchen mixer was up to the job.

“If the band were to catch, it would wrap around the paddle until it becomes taught and comes to a stop,” one commented. “The baby wouldn’t be caught in the paddle.
