What presents to buy for children’s birthday parties: Kiwi kids share their advice

Take the stress out of present shopping with the advice from these clever youngsters and your local Westfield centre.

You’re pressed for time already, with one kid due at a party at lunchtime and the other this afternoon – picking up presents for each of them feels impossible. Luckily, Westfield had the clever idea of getting Monty the Monkey to ask the experts: real New Zealand children. The mascot asked them what they would want if they could pick something for themselves.

The stores the kids picked from are all in one place so you can zip through your pressie shopping. Surprisingly, the kids all picked pretty reasonably priced items so you can follow their advice and get the perfect gift without breaking the bank.

Pro tip? Stock up in advance so that you don’t have to rush next time – or use the present mission as an opportunity to grab a coffee.

The kids who chose books from Whitcoulls

“My favourite book is Tangled because it has princesses in it. I like to play princesses with my besties, and I like monkeys.”

“This is the World’s Worst Children 2. The coolest character in this book is probably Humbert the Hungry Baby. He ended up eating basically everything in his house until it got destroyed, and then he ended up eating his mum too and his cat. Ha ha.”

The kids who chose new clothes from Farmers

“I wanted a new dress from Farmers. My favourite clothes are dresses because they are really pretty. No, I don’t like pants. Hehehe.”

“From Smiggle I got a snake puzzle. You have to try and make a snake, but you just have to twist it.”

“From Smiggle I chose a set of ballpoint gel pens. I drew Monty. I like Monty because he’s funny and he gives me hugs, and he high-fives me.”
