Mother ‘addicted’ to breastfeeding says she feels jealous when child takes bottle

A young mum has claimed she’s 'addicted' to breastfeeding her 14-month-old, admitting she is emotionally attached to feeding her baby twice a day.

Mallory Bourn’s daughter Blythe started to drink from a bottle four months ago, but despite this, the 24-year-old mum found it impossible to give up her breastfeeding habit.

The London blogger, who publishes her lifestyle writings on Bourn Sisters, even says she feels jealous when she doesn’t get to feed her baby.

On her first blog post for Babycentre, Mallory revealed that thinking about stopping breastfeeding makes her feel “really sad.”

“It has been one of my favourite parts of motherhood so far, although it has not been without its hurdles and tears (from both of us!).

“It has made me feel so important and empowered that I am providing her with the nutrients she needs to grow, as well as the comfort she needs to thrive.”

Mallory describes how despite struggling with breastfeeding to begin with, it is now a time she cherishes with her baby, and doesn’t want the experience to be over.

“My daughter was so stubborn she refused to even suck a bottle until she was 10 months old. Which at times was really hard as it meant I couldn’t really be parted from her. I was left feeling frustrated and desperate for her to take a bottle as if I was somehow to blame.

“Now that she will accept a bottle I can’t help but feel a little jealous and replaced, so I still feed her twice a day,” she admits.

But despite being the ultimate breastfeeding advocate, Mallory admits it’s not for everyone, but simply urges women to give it a try.

“Although the pressures from others do sometimes make me question myself I know it is doing neither of us any harm to continue a little longer,” she concludes.
