As far as pregnancies go, Elle Halliwell’s would rank as pretty darn challenging.
Less than two days after finding out she was expecting the News Corp journalist and Nova radio host was given the devastating news that she had a rare form of leukaemia.
After courageously delaying her life-saving chemotherapy treatment for the sake of her unborn child, Elle has revealed to the Daily Telegraph that she’s given birth to a beautiful baby boy.
Born at 36 weeks Tor Felix Biasotto was delivered on Tuesday night and weighed in at a healthy 3.1kgs.
The reporter told the paper that she had Tor a week early as doctors wanted to start her treatment “as soon as possible.”
“We were going to have a bit of time before (I started) but my levels have gone up a bit so they (doctors) are a bit more concerned than they were and that is why we had to have him at 36 weeks on the dot and not 37 so that I could start the treatment as soon as possible”, the 31-year-old told the Tele as she cradled Tor during an exclusive photo shoot.
“Now the next challenge begins, I start my TKI (tyrosine kinase inhibitor) drugs and we don’t know how that is going to make me feel but I am feeling pretty positive and I have got a lot to be happy and healthy for,” she added.
The brave new mum says both she and her partner, Nick Biasotto are feeling hopeful about the future.
“If I am healthy, then I can keep him healthy”, Elle said. “We are both very lucky. All is well that ends well. We are really over the moon.”
