Returning to civilian life is often a huge struggle for servicemen, who more often than not are suffering with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following their experiences in battle.

The 26-year-old found it difficult to reconnect with his old life, and suffered with PTSD back in Tallahassee, Florida.

Peter’s mother, heartbroken by her son’s struggle, decided he needed something to make him happier.

Ahead of Christmas this year, Dena secretly bought a tiny beagle puppy, and gathered the family at her house.

Just before bringing the pup in, Dena put him in a ventilated box with a bow on it, and handed it to Peter.

Overcome with emotion, Peter starts to cry as he hugs the little puppy to his chest.

Dena later told press that the puppy has “changed Peter’s life,” and “made him happy after a very difficult three years.”
