A woman who was eight months pregnant went into early labour after a teenage boy dressed as a clown jumped out at her in an English town this week.

From Whitwick, Leicestershire, the woman was walking through the town when a 17-year-old boy jumped out at her dressed in a clown costume – as part of a craze that has taken over this month.

As a result, the woman gave birth a month before her due date, though a friend of hers confirmed that mum and baby are luckily “doing good.”

Taking to Facebook to discourage others from getting on board with the clown craze, where people dress up and deliberately try to scare passers-by, the friend wrote:

“Thanks for the concern about my friend . She was 8 months pregnant and had a stupid 17 year old kid jump out on her dressed as a clown . Baby came early but mother and baby doing good . Pls pls think old people and pregnant ladies arnt the best to scare . It’s a nonsense craze that needs stopping.”

Leicestershire police have vowed to take action against individuals taking prat in the craze, writing a message on their Facebook page confirming this.

“Causing fear, alarm or distress intentionally is not acceptable in our communities and is potentially a criminal offence,” they wrote.
