February 29 is a leap day, which only occurs every four years, even less frequently on a Monday to Friday.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports most fixed annual salaries are calculated on a 365-day year, which means if you are heading in to work today- the extra day that brings 2016’s day count up to 366 – you will arguably be doing it for free.
That’s right – unless you’re being paid for an additional day, or given extra leave, consider today a gift to your employer.
Fortunately, there are exceptions. If your payroll department calculates salary based on weeks, fortnights or months rather than days, your pay will vary each financial year, leap day or not.
