Extreme weather is causing chaos in Wellington this week, with floods closing some schools and roads.
Residents in Porirua are being told to stay at home, as the CBD has been overwhelmed with water.
MetService has issued a severe weather warning for the wider Wellington region – streams and rivers are likely to rise rapidly and slips are also possible. Rain is forecast for the lower North Island until Sunday.
State Highway One southbound through the region should be taken with care, and predictions are that there will be 100mm of rainfall in the area today.
