The average mum’s daily chores

The modern mother completes about 59 tasks - a day.

The average mum carries out 59 daily tasks according to a recent survey.

Over 1,500 UK mothers took part in the study, in which they were asked to report on their day-to-day activities.

Mums admitted to completing a range of tasks, including revising for spelling tests, signing school permission slips, washing uniforms and nagging kids to brush teeth. In many cases this was on top of working.

The study gave an interesting insight into the gender divide in the home. Nine out of 10 of the mums surveyed reported that they take the lead on child-related household tasks.

Two thirds of participants admitted feeling their partner relies too heavily on them to complete chores in the home.

Giving truth to the saying that a woman’s work is never done, on average, mums are up by 6.38am after having gone to bed at around 10.30pm the night before.

Most surveyed said they wake up before the rest of the family to get ahead on chores such as emptying the dishwasher and packing children’s lunches.

Many also admitted to forgetting things like taking food out of the freezer and medical appointments.

The survey, conducted by UK’s Red Tractor Beef and Lamb food suppliers, found nearly three-quarters on mums opt for a ready-to-eat meal at least once per week.
