Who runs the news? Girls

The numbers are in, and the ladies are leading the news.
Seven Sharp presenters Toni Street and Pippa Wetzell

On Wednesday night Seven Sharp, hosted by female presenters Toni Street and Pippa Wetzell was the third most-watched show on television.

494,660 viewers tuned in, even without the usual host Mike Hosking, who was off sick with a mystery illness.

Seven Sharp’s ratings are on the rise and by mid-September this year, viewer count was at 500,000.

“The support of our audience is really important to us,” says TVNZ’s head of News and Current Affairs, John Gillespie.

Although Mike Hosking will be back on screen soon, the temporary new female co-hosts are holding down the fort just fine.
