Parents of baby killed in Melbourne rampage speak out

“He leaves us with the best three months and 14 days of wonderful memories spent in this world.”

The parents of the three-month-old boy who was killed when a man drove a car into a crowd of people in Melbourne on Friday have spoken of their loss.

Matthew and Nawwar Bryant’s little boy Zachary was one of five people who died when Dimitrious “Jimmy” Gargasoulas allegedly went on a rampage in Melbourne’s Bourke Street on January 20.

More than 30 people were injured, including Zachary’s older sister, two-year-old Zara, according to The Age.

“Our beautiful Zara is in a stable condition, however Zachary, our son, did not survive” the parents said in a statement after Zachary passed away on Saturday night.

“He was the most beautiful, loving, happy, and perfect little baby we were so lucky to be gifted with. He was the light of our lives constantly filling our days with smiles and laughs. He leaves us with the best three months and 14 days of wonderful memories spent in this world

“We want to thank everyone who has helped us, comforted us and grieved with us. Your kind words really mean the world to us. We ask you to keep us and Zara in your prayers.”

According to the ABC, the accused offender, 26-year-old Gargasoulas, has been charged with five counts of murder. He will remain in custody and face court through a video link in August.

On January 14, Gargasoulas was charged with an undisclosed crime, however, he was granted bail by an after-hours judge against police’s recommendations.
