Mother of drowned girls: ‘I was just screaming’

The mother of two little girls who drowned in a backyard pool talks about finding her "beautiful angels".

It is a tragedy that unfolded in minutes. Queensland parents Renise and Troy Young couldn’t find their young daughters and then they heard their five-year-old son Aige yelling for help.

Patricia and Taya, aged just 3 and 4, had got through the pool fence gate and were in the pool. The parents frantically tried to revive their daughters as they wanted for paramedics to arrive.

Mum-of-five Renise has spoken about about finding her daughters in the water.

“All a mother could do when they see their baby like that is just scream at the top of their lungs,” she told The Courier Mail.

“I was screaming and grabbing them and making sure their head was above the water and just yelling because there was nothing I could do.

“We know (they are) at rest, they’re at peace, they’re not going to go through any pain, they’re just sleeping.”

The Courier Mail says police are not treating the incident as suspicious but detectives and Logan City council inspectors spent the afternoon trying to determine how the pair were able to enter the pool area. Statements have been taken from Aige and the girls’ parents.

Family and friends gathered outside the home yesterday to support the parents and the other three children.

Renise has thanked the emergency services and the family and friends who have gathered around them to help in their grief.
