Former All Black Ali Williams has been charged by French police, after being arrested for cocaine possession in Paris.

International news agencies report Williams and Wallabies star James O’Connor, have been charged, after they were arrested over the weekend for allegedly possessing cocaine.

The star lock, who lives in France with his wife, Casey and the couple’s two young children, was arrested outside a nightclub near the Arc de Triomphe.

A report on the LCI.fr news website alleged the pair were detained after buying cocaine and the two players were reportedly taken into custody. The case is now with the state prosecutor, who will decide whether to make an example of Williams and O’Connor.

Williams’, 35, French rugby club, Racing 92, said he would not be considered for selection until the matter was resolved.

“A player of Racing 92 is at the heart of an investigation into the possession of cocaine,” the club said.

“It was decided to temporarily suspend Ali Williams. If the investigation confirmed the possession of cocaine and the transaction, it would not only be against the law but also a serious breach of our ethics.

“We want to assure our partners and our supporters of our total determination to uphold our values, and we apologise to all club and sport lovers for the disorder caused, and thank them for their loyalty.”

Williams’ fellow Racing 92 and All Black Teammate, Dan Carter, was arrested for alleged drink driving in Paris earlier this month.
