An Auckland primary school went into lock down after students were chased and bitten by two dogs this afternoon.
Three Kings School principal Jo Willmoth sent an email to parents, explaining two dogs had chased some of the students at lunchtime.
“The school was put into lockdown to protect the children. The children are safe,” she wrote. “Several children received surface wounds and were attended to by the ambulance. Parents of the children wounded were contacted. We are pleased to say that all children are safe and the school programme continues this afternoon.”
A second email was sent as the school was due to close for the day, telling parents their children remain together in the school hall, and would only be allowed to leave if they were collected in a vehicle as the dogs were still roaming the area.
The animals have since been located and the children have been allowed to leave the school grounds.
Willmoth wrote at the time: “Animal Control have advised us that they have located the owner of the dog who was biting and are currently searching the area to retrieve the dogs. However, they have had reports from the public that the dogs have bitten people in the area.”
