Beau Monga, who won the second season of TV3’s The X Factor NZ last year, appeared in the Hamilton District Court yesterday on five charges – three for breaching a protection order, and two for male assaults female, according to Fairfax.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The news comes after Beau and his father Ryan (of musical group Ardijah) were guest speakers at the Dads and Sons Breakfast held in aid of anti-violence charity White Ribbon Day in Hamilton last month.
The event, which Beau also performed at, was arranged as a joint effort between Hamilton City Council and support service Family Works.
In a previous statement announcing Beau and Ryan’s involvement in the breakfast, Family Works Waikato Area Manager Darrin Meynell said, “We invite men to come along with their sons, grandsons, nephews, younger siblings to support White Ribbon Day and role model respectful relationships to young men and boys. We want this breakfast to foster healthy relationships with our boys and teach them early on that violence against women and children is not OK.”
This was Beau’s second appearance in court. He first appeared on December 1, but had interim name suppression, which lapsed on Tuesday. His layer, Jarom Keung, did not make an application to renew it.
