Word of mouth
Like most children who are developing their language skills, Miss Four will often blurt out some hilarious, nonsensical words. She’s a cheeky little thing, and loves to get a reaction out of us. However, she struggles to say “chewing gum”, which is one of her favourite treats. It always ends up sounding like “chingum” no matter how hard she tries. one day she was so frustrated that she yelled, “I need a new voice – I can’t say it!” Maybe her teeth were sticking?

Stars crossed
Something happened recently that made me think I may be inadvertently corrupting my children. Miss Six was reading Nancy Drew while on the way to swimming class one day, when she suddenly piped up, “Mum, is Sherlock Holmes a relative of Katie Holmes?”

Teacup of the week
One afternoon while I was cooking for my five-year-old grandson, I told him we were going to be having casserole for dinner. “oh, no!” he exclaimed. Then he asked rather curiously, “Does that mean I have to eat it going round and round?” When I had finally stopped laughing, I realised he thought he was going to eat it on a carousel.
