A young girl has started sneezing up to 8,000 times a day – and no one seems to know why.
Ira Saxena began sneezing around 10 times a minute in June, and while various doctors have examined her, none have been able to tell her anxious parents what is causing the unusual behaviour.
The nine-year-old, who lives in Colchester, England, only stops sneezing when she is asleep, and the fits begin the moment she wakes up.
Her parents have removed her from school, as she is unable to concentrate in lessons.
“Three weeks ago she just woke up sneezing and she has not stopped. It started slowly and has progressed to become more constant and violent,” Ira’s mum, Priya, told The Mirror.
“The doctors are saying it is possibly an incorrect signal being sent from her brain or a tic, but nobody can be sure.”
The distressed child has been prescribed steroids, antihistamines and a nasal spray, but so far, nothing has worked and her parents have gone public with her plight in an attempt to get some relief.
The family are currently trying homeopathic medicine and hypnotherapy.
“This is robbing her of her life,” Priya said.
“It is so frustrating and she is being very brave.”
